This is not the old comp.unix.faq

This is not a replacement for the comp.unix.faq Internet News based FAQ. Which was an excellent place to learn about AIX and find answers.
A website version of this FAQ can be found at the following URL

Website URL
comp.unix.faq http://www.faqs.org/faqs/aix-faq/

In this News based FAQ there are hundreds of useful questions and answers but this FAQ has major problems.

  1. It is hopelessly out of date - the last update was 2nd November 2000 (just about the time AIX 5 was released)
  2. It contains lots of AIX 3 and AIX 4 questions and answer. While these can be very useful for older systems still running these old versions they add confusion as answers may or may not apply to AIX 5L
  3. There seem to be no process nor mechanism to update this old FAQ

It is time to move on with a AIX 5L FAQ.

What is this FAQ for then?

This is the place for a list of commonly asked questions for AIX 5L and will forever be a work in progress.
Many of the questions will originate from the AIX 5L Forum and from AIX Support Channels.
The aim is to save you time and increase yous skills.
As the list of questions grows it will need to be better organised but a list is good enough for now.
If you add an answer please try to include a date (if it is likely to need updating) or a reference to where the information came from (so it can be checked or used for further details).
